Preliminary translation: "Bodin refers to Francois Foix de Candale in the sixth book of de Rep. and in Theatro Naturae lib. II fol. 261, he calls him Gallicum Archimedem, he [Candale] also made wires of all 6 metals: hereafter he printed a wire in whale bone / and filled the form with mercury / he shall also have reported / that it is not feasible / to melt the metals / and fill up a specially therefore produced bottle with each of them / because when they cool down / they are supposed to set / one more than the other: which Bodin confirms with ice / but he was wrong / because when water becomes ice / it becomes not smaller / but larger / otherwise it would not swim on top / not float in jugs and glasses / not overflow in closed carrying containers."
